I'll be back

Spoiler!  I finished the the Cowtown Marathon yesterday!  It was slow going, but I got there.  It was a really crazy weekend.  I picked Brad up from the airport on Friday.  He ran the Cowtown 10k on Saturday.  After waking up late, he rushed out to Fort Worth (not very close to us at all), then ran from the car straight across an already empty starting line, and then he drove back here for Alaurie's soccer game.  After the soccer game we drove back to Fort Worth to join my dad and the rest of my family at our hotel and hit up the Expo.  We ate together that night, I went to target for some cheap tube socks (arm warmers, and on clearance for $1.75!), then got up bright and early the next morning for the marathon.  Finished the marathon, chatted with the folks and headed back home for dinner and an ice bath.  The weekend feels like it didn't end until this morning when I dropped Brad back off at the airport for another week of visiting IKEA stores.

My house is a disgusting disaster right now.  Just thinking about all the things I have to do is making me exhausted.  So hopefully I can have a race recap up tomorrow!

Thanks for all the good luck you sent my way before the marathon.  Maybe now you can wish me luck in getting my house back in order.

High Five Friday

1) I've decided to do a themed day.  I am original and took a very common theme that pretty much every blogger does every week.

2) I'm going to pick my husband up from the airport in a couple of hours.  I was up two nights in a row with a puking son, so when he steps off that plane I'm handing over the reins and zoning out for a while.

3) I am a Gleek and I don't care what you think about that.  After this weeks amazing episode, this Cough Syrup song by Young and the Giant makes me tear up.  This weeks episode will be on Hulu next week.  You just have to watch the first ten minutes.  Very moving in my opinion and Glee isn't usually a "moving" type of show.  It could just be horomones... OR it was a truly awesome episode of Glee.  I'm going with the latter.

4) It looks like I might be joining the run group this Saturday after all.  I was going to spend all weekend in Ft Worth but my daughter has another soccer game.  She already had one last night.  I'm glad I took the time to put all this soccer stuff in my google calendar or I would be in a constant state of confusion.

5) I'm running the Cowtown Marathon on Sunday!  Wish me luck!

Whaaaaa! Hold my bike!!! Whaaaaaa!

The title is what my 3 year old son screamed at me half way home from the track this evening.  I walk/jogged with the kids as they rode bikes to the track, did 1 mile and then walk/jogged back.  I wasn't planning on getting in a really hard workout.  Just something to loosen my legs up before this weekend.  Oh, wait, did we forget?  I'm running a marathon on Sunday.  A very slow and "easy" marathon.  I'm nervous about it and have chosen not to mention it much on the blog.  That's because I'm totally prepared and willing to take my DNF if for some reason something doesn't feel right.  I think it's unlikely that anything will go wrong with the parasitic human inside me, but I'm not setting any grand expectations anyway.  My training hasn't been top notch, but I think it's been satisfactory.  I've had some bad runs, but it was always on account of my terrible mental attitude.  For Chicago I had all these plans for a great PR driving to train really well.  Not so much this time around.

The last three runs I've been on have put me in great spirits.  Given they've been really short runs, but my legs and stride felt good and right.  For some reason my stride had just felt weird lately and it was bringing me down.

I feel good now, and I'm for the challenge this weekend.  I do want to finish, but I assure everyone that I am more than OK with dropping out if necessary.  Not that I'm predicting any need.  I'm just saying.

P.S. I actually can't stand when people say "Just saying" because it's usually at the end of some spiteful and arrogant facebook status update.

Uncooperative weather

We had out second week of running group last Saturday.  We had our same five out there again.  There were 3 or 4 people who proclaimed they would totally be there, BUT the weather was calling for rain and whah, whah, whah.  I get it though.  I've melted once or twice while running in the rain.  The funny thing is that the rain actually held off until we were all done running and getting in our cars to head our separate ways.  I really love our die hards though, who despite less than pleasant weather conditions have continued to show up.  Brad and I will be in Fort Worth this weekend for the Cowtown 5&10k on Saturday and then the half and full marathons on Sunday.  The other three in the running group said they're still getting together on Saturday morning.
Brad made little direction signs last week

Rain?  What about it?!  Lindee, me, and Marsha

Other than that, I have had absolutely nothing going on in my hum drum life.  We're still getting re-aclimated to Texas life.  We thought we would just pick back up where we left off with old friends and old activities, but that isn't how it works.  Instead of one small baby we now have two very active children and some of our still single friends just aren't digging it.  Some of our friends who do have kids just don't like doing a damn thing all together.  I would be lying if I said this wasn't getting on my nerves a little bit.  I just spent 3 1/2 years with a minimal social life.  Without very many child rearing friends, or sitter options, social outings were kept to a minimum.  Now, I have both of those things and I'm ready to party!  Actually, I have been hanging out with Karen a lot.  Together we drag our children out of the confines and safety of their homes and into the public domain where behavior is unknown and humiliation is a possibility.

I decided I need some goals.  Well so far I only have one.

1) run at least 3 times a week a minimum of 2 miles for the duration of my pregnancy.

That's all I've got.  What do you think my goals should be?  I just need there to be something that keeps my mind in the game, if only a little.

The opposite of sausage fest for 200

I haven't been blogging much or even reading very many blogs lately (sorry blog friends.  I'll try to fix that).

I have been running a little here and there, but without any goals. It's nice but weird and kind of dull.  My husband and I started a running group here in our little town and we had our first meet up last Saturday.  We had 3 people show up, not including my husband and I.  Not too bad really.  A)It's a small town so there isn't a large pool of runners to draw from.  I think we may end up creating more runners than already exist, and that's just fine by me. B) It was our very first meet up. C) It was 34 degrees that morning so the people who did come out were real troopers and I have a lot of faith that they will continue to come out.

We had a pretty good 3 mile run, of which I ran the entire way.  I know, big whoop it's just a 3 miler.  Dude, for real, it doesn't matter how short the run is lately, when I'm by myself will power and motivation are non existent.  Running with other people always pumps me up somehow.  It's a big reason why we started this group.  We start and end on the square in the middle of town (it's a small but adorable little town) and afterward have coffee at one of the cafe's.

Right now we have a variety of speeds, although I would love to see some walkers come and join us.  We're a little short on testosterone right.  2 out of the 5 were guys at our first meet up, but all 19 members on the Celina Runners facebook group are chicks.  What is the opposite of a sausage fest?   Something with clams?  I would like to add another run or two during the week and I've noticed that one of the Mexican restaurants in town does free margaritas on Tuesday nights.  Hmmm... Terrible Tuesday Margarita Run?  Of course mine would have to be virgin for a while (Booooo for virgins!!!!).

Would it be a clam bake? No?

No fingers

I ran 13 miles on Saturday.  It was terrible.  I was doing pretty well in the first half, the weather was great and I was running with the wind.  Then on the back half, the sun started to go down and I was running straight into a cold and fierce wind.  With about a 5k left, I stopped giving a shit and walked the rest of the way.  This has been happening a lot.

I'm hoping that the running group my husband and I just started can get my head back into running.  I've had a ton of other things on my mind lately.  Now that we're back in OUR house, I have a hundred projects I want to get done.  Also, my daughter officially starts soccer tomorrow and I think I'm  more nervous than she is.  I have no idea how to interact with other parents that aren't already my friends.  It's a weird new world I'm about to enter.

I've also been kind of busy with an actual social life.  It's been quite a while since I've had one of those.  Last Friday I went out to a nice fondue place with friends and then out to a bar.  Bars obviously aren't all that fun for me right now and I was starting feel really tired.  But then shuffle board opened up.  As it turns out, I am quite a shuffle board bad ass.  It perked me up and I ended up staying out til 1am.  Go me!  It's not like I never go out, it just doesn't happen that often.  And when you can't drink, 1am is an accomplishment.
